Ladybug Festival & Unity Wave

ladybug-festival

This is what I am taking part in on Saturday. A ladybug festival! It begins with the release of over 100,000 lady bugs into the pesticide free gardens.

I will be performing and showing my art. Sounds like a fabulous lineup, with music, fire-spinners, belly dancers, and a ten piece funk band. What fun to be part of this! If you are in the Calgary area, please come by and join n the festivities.

Flow in Compassion

My paintings are safely back home, minus the one which was sold. This is one of my faves, as I really enjoyed painting this. My plan is now to regroup. I will paint, without the pressure of an upcoming show, and rethink my art business plan.

Gale force winds are pummelling us for the second time in a week complete with a rain-snow mix. Still the temperatures have not plummeted, so I suppose thi

Grasslands

The show is in the gallery, and runs until the end of April. If you are in Calgary, and get a chance, stop down on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday during Gallery hours, or contact me for a private viewing!

Some of the pieces were rather large for this show, the largest being 48" X 72" . This is Grasslands, a common sight in southern Alberta. Our gallery now has a blog, and here is an article abou

Vision Invite

I am still here and life has been busy! Preparing for my April art show is taking most of my free time at the moment, which is in the main gallery at ArtPoint this time. I am painting up a storm in order to fill the walls there, for my opening on April 9, 2010.

It takes courage to step out of the comfort zone and create from a new place. That is partly what my April show is about. The other par

Belated Happy New Year Everyone! A fresh decade is off to a busy start. Has anyone noticed how the days seem to be moving rapidly, and seasons appear to be interchangeable.

First painting of the new year!

Day Lily- Acrylic on Canvas 16 X 20. This was done from a photograph I took of the day lilies I grew in my garden. Speaking of gardening, I am already thinking up some ideas for the coming ga

A month goes by fast! With my show in the final week; I am already planning a larger show for the main gallery at ArtPoint in April 2010. There is still time to view the current show this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

In the meantime I decided to loosen up and do a bit of fun stuff, while I hold the energy for what is to come. The colour in this landscape are not showing up well here at all

Painting Story

16 Nov 2009 at 11:53 am

sepiaglaze

During the course of a painting there are many choices to make along the way, much like life. As Joni Mitchell says in her song 'Blue'; "Songs are like tattoos, you know I've been to sea before."

A story, our story, the story of a painting. And then there is the question of ending. What is the best sort of finish? Have I said all I want to say? Save something for the next painting ... perhaps.

It is dark so early now that the time has changed. It was great to have an extra hour, as there was much to do this week.

Paintings were finished, signed and wired for hanging with a coat of varnish. Everything got done somehow, except for my hair that is. I managed to maintain my focus which was the important thing.

Here are the pictures of the show at ArtPoint, the artist run gallery I belo

Silk Poppy

Time for something bright and cheery. My upcoming show is not just about trees.

I couldn't possibly get away with not showing flowers. This one will be at ArtPoint for the Nov. 6 Opening through Nov. 28.

I suppose it is right on time for Remembrance Day.

However I have named this one 'Silk'; Acrylic on Canvas 24 X 24.

Pretty much every red pigment was used in the painting of this poppy. On

Suspended Animation

We are in a state of suspended animation here. Perhaps this is a result of Jupiter going direct. Leaves still green are frozen in their tracks, some fallen to the ground, and some still clinging to the trees.

Wondering about what their state will be when temperatures warm later in the week. One thing for certain is the flowers are unlikely to come back to life. This is my state of ultimate de

Late Summer Light

Saturday was a lovely day to go to Nosehill Park and capture the sunset. I needed to blow some cobwebs out of my head, and so off with camera in hand I went. The light was so interesting and follow the light is just what I did. Wouldn't you know, when the time came to depart-I realized I was on the wrong side of the ravine. I hadn't even realized how far I had travelled.

Sunday is a wonderful day to go to the farmer's market. This group from South America called Nuna'y was playing. Slightly overcast though not cold, the breeze wove the airy Andean Zampoña music into my heart centre.

Harvest time and the last week for seasonal fruits such as cherries and peaches, I stocked up for one final fruit extravaganza. Found some lovely mini squash which reminded me of gi

Unfortunately no shots of me playing. I did one set on guitar and one on keyboard. A very relaxed enjoyable experience with a receptive audience.

The weather held up but if not, I still would have been fine in this lovely gazebo!

Solstice came and went with a coolness to the day and cloudy skies. A shock of light wove between clouds like a ribbon.

The enlivened aroma of fresh lilacs after the rain blended took to the high tones of the air with the lily of the valley holding the velvet centre, soft winds caressing.

This post was meant to come out in June, yet June is but a memory, it's rustling cool winds made way for

Lilacs and Snow in June

snowy lilacs

WOW Can you believe it-snow in JUNE! Ideally the lilacs would have bloomed in May, in time for the lilac festival, but they are late this year.

The Lilac Fest was where I survived my virgin voyage as a busker, though I didn't get rich, I am richer for the experience. Estimated attendance was 100,000 to 150,000, and it was impossible to find my friend who was lost somewhere in the sea of people.

If nothing else I am learning resilience through this whole process. The pathway is being cleared and it feels as though I nearly have all the parts assembled. It is almost time to plug it in, then I will know for sure if it works. The other part is timing and the sequence in which things occur. I believe in my ability to attract good things to myself.

As I write this the snow is gently falling ... oh can it be over soon? Spring is reluctant this year. Yet the birds bravely carry on, building nests and making preparations for their young. Yes I am trying to be like the birds and go with the flow.

Bits of open water are beginning to show at various spots along the Bow River. Yet the ice and snow hangs on with a powerful resistance to welcome the new season. Am I seeing this as a mirror to my own reluctance?

Truth is change is going to happen, regardless of what our response is to it. So my reprieve has removed me from the inner cog of production, while the new structures are being put in

One of my most recent fancies is digital art, so I am experimenting with Photoshop. Photoshop has a bit of a learning curve, and this is something I created. It's similarity in this case to watercolor is uncanny. I tried a test print and it looks quite good. Just as soon as I find the best kind of paper to print on, then I will be able to offer prints of my digital work. My eventual plan is to c
